Striving for excellence

Today at Church I was listen­ing to a friend read­ing from a talk by Elder Stephen E. Snow on the topic of ser­vice. The story about the cancer-​ridden, dying mother, whose last words were «I wish I had served more [...] I could have done more», really touched me.

Entertainment standards

Those who know me well know that I have very high stand­ards as to what I watch on tele­vi­sion or which music I listen to. Some even feel offen­ded when I refuse to watch some­thing they enjoyed because its con­tent does not con­form with these stand­ards. They feel I’m being self-​righteous, preachy or snob­bish. Thank­fully, oth­ers take a second look at their own stand­ards and actu­ally respect my choice. A few even raise their stand­ards, and good on them for doing so.

Losing my religion

My par­ents taught me about God, Jesus Christ and the pur­pose of life. I believed everything they taught me. Then, about 6 years ago, they split up, got divorced, and moved away from the beliefs they had taught my broth­ers, my sis­ter and I.
